INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORSManuscripts should be typed or word processed using double-spacing and wide margins on one side of the page only. Manuscripts should be printed on a printer of at least letter quality, with characters no smaller than 10 point, if word processed, and 12 characters per inch, if typewritten. While no maximum length of contributions is prescribed, authors are encouraged to write concisely. The title should be brief. A short abstract should accompany the manuscript on a separate sheet. The paper itself and the abstract should be headed by the name(s) of the author(s) and his (their) affiliation(s). In the case of co-authors, it should be clearly indicated who is to receive correspondence and proofs for correction. Because of the international character of the Journal, no rigid rules concerning notation or abbreviation need be observed by the authors, but each paper should be consistent within itself as to symbols and units, which should all be properly defined. All mathematical symbols may be either handwritten or typewritten, but not in such a way that ambiguities should arise. Illustrations are to be restricted to the minimum necessary. Line drawings should be included with the manuscript, submitted separately, with captions and positioning appropriately noted in the text. Line drawings should include all relevant details and should be drawn in black ink on plain white paper. Good photoprints are acceptable, but blueprints or dye line prints cannot be used. Ideally, illustrations should be submitted in the same size (or slightly larger) as intended for the printed article. Lettering must be clear and sufficiently large to permit any necessary reduction in size. Photographs should be sent as black and white prints (color prints do not always reproduce well, but can be used if no other prints are available). As with the line drawings, photographs should be as close in size to the final reproduction size as possible. In order to avoid introducing errors, tables should be in final, typeset form so that they can be scanned. For best results, these should be printed on a laser printer. References to published literature should be noted in the text in square brackets, with the corresponding reference list grouped at the end of the paper in numerical order. It is also requested that authors' initials, and appropriate volume and page numbers should be given in every case. Footnotes should not be included in the numbered reference system, but should be noted using symbols, and commence anew on each page. Since italicized type cannot be read by most OCR programs, where italicized type is necessary, please use underlining. Computer programs should be printed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper using a laser quality printer whenever possible. The original manuscript and illustrations will be discarded one month after publication unless accompanied with a written request by the author to return the material.
